Photoshoot and spread for Coulture Magazine in celebration of the Black women who helped shape the history of rock music.
About_
Since the 1960’s, poplar culture has allowed rock music to be defined by white masculinity. The Beatles. Led Zeppelin. Nirvana. Maroon 5. But the sound we know and love today was brought to you by Black women like Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Alice Coltrane and the Blossoms. This editorial features the fictional band Black Gamoura and subverts what we think we know about rock by replacing it with the truth.
